How much does it cost to install a lift in your home, in 2021?

We’ve covered this question a lot on this blog, but always wanting to give you the most up-to-date information as possible, we’re covering it again for 2021! We’ll also cover the question: ‘Does the cost even matter?’, a seemingly strange question, which we’ll address at the end of the article.

What do we mean?

Firstly, it depends what you mean by 'home lift'. Normally, what home lift means is really a 'through-floor lift'; we explain what that is, in more detail in other posts.

We offer a wide range of options when it comes to through-floor lifts (including one of the widest range of through-floor lift sizes on the market today!), comprising of our VM Open Car Home Lift, our VE Enclosed Car Home Lift, and our Elesse Luxury Home Lift. We can also design and provide very specific, custom home lift builds, which range from simple aesthetic additions, to complex and groundbreaking technologies.

But sometimes (less commonly), people might be referring to a kind of Platform Lift, of which we also sell many. These lifts are very different to through-floor lifts, can often be placed outside the house, as well as inside, and importantly, don’t go through the floor.

Does it even matter...?

The question of home lift cost would be incomplete if we didn’t talk about the strange question posed at the start of this article; does the cost actually matter?

If you’re buying a lift through the Disabled Facilities Grant (or DFG), the cost may, indeed, not be what’s most important to you, and ultimately what lift you get might be decided by someone else. This certainly isn’t to say you have no choice in the matter of what lift you get, and Wessex will do anything we can to liaise with the decision makers around the lift purchase to ensure your home receives the right level accessibility it needs!
