After suffering a spinal injury in 1995 which resulted in Ian using a wheelchair, he has pushed himself and become a top athlete in multiple sporting disciplines.

Ian with his previous Paralympic medal. Text reads: 'Tokyo 2021, Ian Marsden Team GB Paracanoe. Good Luck, from all at Wessex Lifts'

We first met Ian back in 2001 when he had one of our home lifts installed a VM31. This home lift is our best-selling through the floor lift designed to accommodate wheelchair users and seated passengers, this lift can be customised to almost any size and colour.

"The lift allowed me to move around my home. It made such a difference to be able to go upstairs like everyone else and be independent."

The Tokyo Paralympic Games commences on the 24th August 2021 until the 5th September.

"I am now part of the Para-canoe GB sprint team. I really enjoy the gym and cardio workouts and the training for the para-canoe combines both those disciplines.

I have represented GB since 2013 when I won Silver at the Europeans in the 200 meter sprint, and in the same year Silver at the World championships. In 2014 and 2015 I won Gold at the European championships and Silver at the World championships in 2014 which were held in Moscow and I achieved bronze in the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

I am excited for Tokyo this year. I travel with the team into the village on the 28th. Racing actually starts on the 2nd September so we will get chance to have a look at the sprint course before then. I am a bit nervous having not been able to race for 2 years, but will stick to my race plan and give it everything."

From all at Wessex, we wish Ian and the team the very best of luck for Toyko!
